Extras

Want to be on television or in a film? If you dream about becoming a famous celebrity or movie star on the big screens, becoming a movie extra is an excellent start in the right direction. In movies, films, and television shows, an extra is an actor or performer who appears in the background in an audience or a busy street scene in a non-speaking capacity. Extras are often popular for war and epic films because hundreds and thousands of extras are required for various scenes. On the set of filming for a movie, film extras are typically part of background action and referred to as “background performers” and “background.” However, on the set of a television show filming, extras are referred to as “supporting artistes,” or “S.A.s.” Depending on the type of production, casting requirements for extras may vary; however, generally, extras must be reliable, able to listen and take directions well, and little to no acting experience are required. Whether you are looking for a bit of fun and excitement or an easy start in the acting field, becoming an extra will fulfill both goals.
